In Africa, the Ethiopian scenario is today one of the riskiest and most demanding for the operators involved in international solidarity: here DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation supports the Salesians both in the Distance Support program at the Salesian houses and in the activities of welcoming displaced people in the Tigray region.

Of the seven Distance Support programs funded by DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation, no less than two are implemented in Ethiopia. Here in Africa as elsewhere, these activities focus on protection and hospitality, provision of medical care, healthy and complete meals, clothing, school supplies, and scholarships. This initiative is managed by the Salesians active on site, spread across five regions of the Country: they guarantee access to basic goods and services and contribute to reducing the insecurity generated by the civil war. The Foundation supports the Salesians of Don Bosco in providing meals, clothing, medical care, school supplies, and scholarships for children and young people without resources and belonging to the most disadvantaged families of the local communities, in order to guarantee their access to basic needs.

In the last two years, the war in the northern part of the Country has opened new hotbeds of emergency. So, in addition to permanent residents, it is also necessary to provide Distance Support to internally displaced persons from Tigray who need humanitarian assistance and education: in fact, the Internally Displaced Persons from the war zone have been welcomed into Salesian homes.

In Ethiopia, the Salesians are present with educational programs for street children, agricultural projects, activities to promote women, initiatives on nutrition, and raising awareness of the risk of HIV and human trafficking. The sons of Don Bosco here run youth centers, primary schools, high schools and technical schools, as well as vocational training institutes.

The Distance Support project, also financed thanks to the solidarity of the donors of DON BOSCO NEL MONDO Foundation, has provided educational support through help for the payment of school fees and living expenses for students, supply of teaching materials, food distribution, hygiene and health materials as well as primary goods, such as clean water.

It is an ambitious and articulated intervention, for a place that needs high-impact activities.
